W – the only letter in the English alphabet to require more than a single syllable to name it. “Double-You” – say it! – that’s 3 syllables – 2 too many!
I have a couple of problems with this situation. First of all, the name “double-u” is a misnomer because the shape of this letter is clearly a “double-v.” Unless you are a middle school girl, your letter should not look like UU, it should look like VV. Secondly, the other 25 letters in our alphabet each have one syllable a piece. W ought to match that scheme.
I propose two things, firstly: the name of W shall be changed tp “Double-Vee,” and secondly: “Double-Vee” shall be shortened to “Dub”.
