Painting a chair

Here’s a recent painting study that I did. Smart painters would probably set up a chair in a still life with a light and environment, but I took the route of imagining what a chair looks like and then building it with paint. It kind of looks like this.

I like working dark to light so I laid down a matte dark ground to start from. I didn’t have anything specific in mind to paint when I got started, so a simple chair seemed like a good enough subject. I was interested in getting paint on the canvas, working quickly with the acrylics to get some wet-into-wet things going on, layering, and mixing paint on the brush. It’s a bit rough, but I think it looks sturdy.
